Cougar Cub PTO Newsletter - November 2024

What was the turkey thankful for on Thanksgiving? Vegetarians! 😄

Take a look below and see what's been going on and what's coming up!

Fall Fest

Fall Fest was a massive success this year, raising over $9,300! That's almost $2,000 more than we raised last year. 100% of these profits will be used to directly impact students.

We have so many to thank for making this event what it was. Thank you to our dedicated teachers and staff who ran the booths to raise money for their grade level. Thank you to all of our families who helped support this year's Fall Fest with ticket sales and opportunity basket donations. And a very special thank you to our Fall Fest committee chairs Karla Astudillo, Bree Hancock, and Preslea Carr for organizing this fun event and making it happen!

Top row: Volunteers bagging over 9,000 pre-ordered tickets, selling tickets at Fall Fest, 3rd grade's ring toss booth, opportunity basket table

Bottom row: 2nd grade's walking taco and root beer float booth, 1st grade's chicken nugget booth, kinder's snow cone booth, pre-k's cotton candy booth

Making Holidays Bright

Our Student/Teacher Appreciation committee will be spreading cheer by celebrating both students and teachers in December! On December 18th, we'll be turning the teachers' lounge into a holiday bar decked with plenty of sweets, treats, and beverages for them to snack on throughout the day. We're asking for help via donations for this event. Click here to sign up to donate: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0844A5AB2CA3FBCE9-53477403-fshe#/

Students will be receiving a surprise gift before winter break - but shhh....don't tell them! It is a surprise, after all!

Recent Events
  • Student Awards committee distributed certificates for students on honor roll and for students who embodied good citizenship. Honor roll students received a certificate for a free kids combo meal from Raising Cane's, and students with good citizenship received a certificate for a free fry from Shake Shack. Additionally, honor roll students in 3rd-5th grades were invited to a trail mix bar, and the kids loved it! Stay tuned to see what the student awards committee has planned for the 2nd quarter celebration in January!

  • November's house color lunch celebrated purple house and the character trait of citizenship. Purple house students got to sit on the cafeteria stage and enjoy snacks provided by the PTO. The cougar cub mascot also made an appearance and got to say hello to many students!

  • Our first-ever school-wide movie night was a smashing success! When we began planning this event, we wanted it to be something that wouldn't require families to spend anything, an opportunity for working parents to attend events they may not otherwise be able to, and a way to bring our school community together. Thank you to all who came for making our movie night such a success! We had a fantastic turnout and loved seeing so many students and families having a great time together. It was so successful that we plan to hold another movie night in the spring! Stay tuned for more information in the coming months!

  • The Student/Teacher Appreciation committee was able to spoil a few of our staff with raffle baskets in October. Congratulations to Mrs. Ware, Ms. Bigham, Mrs. Romero, and Mr. McGrath!

  • Volunteers were out in full force over the last month, helping with more than just PTO initiatives. The school has asked PTO for volunteers for many activities, including pre-k hearing/vision screenings, 5th grade spinal screenings, student council voting and Pumpkin Chunkin. Thank you volunteers for gifting us and the school your time and effort to help!

  • The book vending machine continues to be busy! All classes in grades pre-k-2nd and all SPED classes have already visited and received their free book. In December, 3rd and 4th grade classes will have their turn. Like last year, every student will receive a free book from the book vending machine this year. Books are purchased with profits from our annual book fair.

Check out photos below of our volunteers in action! If you want to be a part of this amazing group of parents, please reach out to us at elempto-1vp@fshisd.org. We'd love to have you!
